Vulnerable households across the country will be able to access a new £500m Household Support Fund to help them with essentials over the coming months as the country continues its recovery from the pandemic.

“The Household Support Fund is a welcome boost for struggling households. We hope this will be an easy to access system, however, at this stage, it isn’t clear if pre-existing debt, particularly arrears will be eligible for help. If they are in arrears, renters need clarity on how they can access help and what is available to them. We urge Government to look at overhauling the Discretionary Housing Payments system, as the simplest, most cost effective way to support tenants.”
