Legislative changes to the Right to Rent Scheme come into force on 2 November. The Code of practice on right to rent: civil penalty scheme for landlords and their agents has been updated.
The legislative changes enable landlords and letting agents to use a new Home Office online checking service, available from 25 November, to undertake right to rent checks for non-UK nationals. It is free to use and makes it easier for landlords and letting agents to undertake right to rent checks.
Checks can be carried out via video call, and you do not need to see documents as the individual’s right to rent information is provided in real time direct from Home Office systems.
