Government have issued their response to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee’s report on protecting rough sleepers and renters.
Commenting on the report, Isobel Thomson, safeagent Chief Executive, said:
“It’s vital that temporary measures put in place to protect homeless people are able to continue. safeagent is pleased to see government’s commitment to ensuring as many people as possible who have been brought in off the streets in the pandemic do not return rough sleeping. The extra funding for homeless services and the establishment of the Taskforce are welcome moves.
“In safeagent’s response to the committee, we suggested that empty homes could be made available to homeless households or those at risk to help to avoid a spike in homelessness once emergency arrangements expire. We hope Government will look seriously at this, and we know many safeagents would be willing to work in partnership with Local Authorities to address this issue.”
