COVID-19 – Keeping the Private Rented Sector safe

Information for landlords

During the COVID-19 outbreak, safety has remained the number one priority for safeagent and its accredited firms. As we begin to emerge from the lockdown and the market starts to reopen, safeagent has compiled the latest Government guidance and advice, in order to best support tenants, landlords and letting agency staff.

Landlords should follow government guidance on coronavirus and renting, and make sure tenants are aware of the guidelines.

Any visits to a property must be made in accordance with government’s guidelines on working in other people’s homes and social distancing.

Using an agent

Agents play an important role between tenants and landlords. During the COVID-19 outbreak, their role has been particularly important in supporting tenants who may be struggling to pay their rent, while also keeping landlords updated on their tenants’ financial position. As the latest guidance is changing so rapidly, a letting agent will be best placed to provide expert advice on the latest rules and how they are being implemented. You should ensure an agent is part of a scheme such as safeagent which offers service and protections through adherence to strict accreditation criteria.

Support for landlords

Government have agreed with lenders that they will ensure support is available where it is needed for landlords. Landlords will also be protected by a three month mortgage payment holiday where they have a Buy-to-Let mortgage.
