SAFEagentAwareness Week 2015 – Why Belvoir! Southampton are proud to be SAFEagents!

It’s Day 3 of SAFEagent Awareness Week 2015, the annual campaign that sees over 3,000 professional lettings agents unite across the U.K. to drive awareness amongst consumers of the importance of choosing a lettings and management agent who is part of a Client Money Protection (CMP) Scheme.

Our In-House Reporter Vanessa Warwick spoke to Brian Linehan of Belvoir! Southampton on Skype to find out why he is proud to be a SAFEagent:

SAFEagent Steering Committee Chair, John Midgley, has been watching the support across the social web and commented:

“It’s so gratifying to see agents uniting to support SAFEagent Awareness Week 2015.  The response so far has been tremendous and is up on the previous three years! The industry has once again pulled together, putting competition to one side, to help create awareness of the importance of client money protection to landlords and tenants.

It is our hope that this combined effort will have the overall net effect of improving both landlords and tenants experience of the PRS. SAFEagents have voluntarily committed to professional standards and they are the driving force for self-regulation and positive change in our industry.  This is THEIR week to shine”.
SAFEagent – Safe Agent Fully Endorsed – is a reliable mark denoting firms that protect landlords and tenants money through Client Money Protection schemes.  Set up ‘by the industry, for the industry’ and recognised by the Government, it is supported by Government, Citizens Advice Bureaux, The Property Ombudsman, Ombudsman Services:Property, the Property Redress Scheme, My Deposits, TDS and DPS.

All agents registered with SAFEagent are part of regulatory organisations/accreditation schemes in the Private Rented Sector and Client Money Protection Schemes which reimburse consumers in the event of misappropriation of clients’ funds. There are several schemes in the sector operated by NALS, ARLA, the Law Society, RICS and UKALA to which agents voluntarily belong. The scope of these schemes varies and consumers should contact their agent for full details of the scheme of which they are a part.

The SAFEagent Steering Group comprises:

Northwood; Belvoir; Foxtons; Touchstone; Winkworth; Hunters, Spicerhaart, Sequence, Connells, Countrywide, Leaders and Savills.
