HOMELET PLAYS SAFE AND WINS
The UK’s largest supplier of referencing to the lettings industry, HomeLet, is the first company in the UK to support a scheme aimed at making the lettings industry more regulated.
The SAFEagent campaign helps to protect landlords’ and tenants’ money by allowing them to identify which letting and management agents are covered by client money protection schemes – therefore keeping their business and money safe.
Agents who sign up to the scheme display the SAFEagent logo to show consumers they are fully regulated and that their money is held completely separate from the operating funds of the firm.
It is fast becoming recognised as the mark to look for to take the risk out of the rental sector, and has already been recognised by the Government and key industry organisations such as Shelter, NUS, Trading Standards Institute, Council of Mortgage Lenders, Residential Landlords Association and the British Property Federation.
HomeLet’s Managing Director, John Boyle, says:
“SAFEagent is a mark of integrity and protection for landlords’ and tenants’ money. We believe that having this protection in place should be a pre-requisite for lettings and management agents that are professional operators.
“We’re delighted to be the first supplier to align ourselves to this campaign and will be looking to raise awareness among our clients of the SAFEagent mark and encourage them to get registered. The message ultimately to consumers is simple – be safe…choose a SAFEagent when you rent or let.”
SAFEagent has been set up “by the agents for agents” and a group of well-known firms in the sector are behind the initiative. In the wake of a series of high profile media cases where lettings agents have absconded with client funds the SAFEagent mark offers peace of mind to landlords and tenants.
SAFEagent has reported a massive uptake with over 1,000 agents immediately subscribing since the launch a month ago. Nick Cooper, MD Northwood and Chair of the SAFEagent Steering Group says:
“Consumers want and deserve protection, and SAFEagent does just that. We’re delighted that HomeLet has led by example as a key partner to take forward the campaign to ensure that in future the SAFEagent mark will be the mark of choice when dealing with a lettings and management agent.”
